Objective

The goal of the MWCD Internship Programme is not only to empower women through hands-on experience but also to create a diverse pool of talented individuals who can contribute to the future of governance and social welfare. Interns will have the chance to work closely with experienced professionals and gain insights into the intricacies of public policy, especially as it pertains to women’s and children’s issues.

The internships also aim to encourage women from underrepresented regions, particularly non-Tier-I cities and rural areas, to engage actively in public service. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to inclusivity and representation in public policy-making.

This programme is particularly relevant in today’s context where women’s voices are increasingly recognized as vital in shaping sustainable policies. The MWCD encourages participants to bring their unique perspectives and experiences into their work, thereby enriching the policy-making process.

The Internship Programme aims to implement the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister – “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” – to contribute to building a self-reliant India. This initiative provides opportunities for women students, scholars, social activists, and teachers to engage in research, policy analysis, and practical implementation of ongoing activities of the Ministry.

About the Internship Programme

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) is inviting applications from eligible women candidates enrolled in or associated with universities, academic institutions, or non-academic organizations. The programme provides qualitative exposure to the Ministry’s mandate and enables participants to contribute to research, policy discussions, and program efficiency.

Each internship cycle will include workshops, seminars, and mentorship sessions designed to deepen understanding of the Ministry’s key areas, such as child protection, women’s welfare, and gender equality. These educational components will enhance the practical experience gained in the field.

Internship Duration & Schedule

The Internship Programme is conducted four times a year, with each batch lasting two months:

This hands-on approach ensures that interns not only contribute but also learn how to tackle complex social challenges.

Scope of Internship Activities

During the internship, interns will:

• Gain insights into policies and programmes of the Ministry.
• Undertake pilot projects and micro-studies related to ongoing government initiatives.
• Conduct research and provide policy recommendations through reports, empirical analysis, and policy papers.
• Interact with Ministry officials, stakeholders, and other government bodies involved in women and child welfare.
• Contribute to improving the implementation of government schemes and identify areas for policy enhancement.

• Only women candidates from non-Tier-I cities and rural areas of India can apply.
• Candidates must be students, scholars, social activists, or teachers enrolled in/associated with a university, academic institution, or non-academic organization.
• Age limit: 21 – 40 years.
• Candidates from Tier-I cities (Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune) are not eligible.

Compliance with the expectations of the internship is crucial for maintaining the integrity and quality of the program. Interns are encouraged to proactively seek feedback and engage in continuous learning throughout their tenure.

Selection Process

• A Selection Committee will evaluate applications.
• Experts from universities or research institutes may be involved in the selection process.
• A maximum of 20 interns per batch will be selected.

Stipend and Benefits

• Stipend: Rs. 20,000 per month.
• Travel Reimbursement: Deluxe/AC Bus or 3-Tier AC Train fare for joining and return travel.
• Accommodation: Hostel facility (triple-sharing) provided in Delhi.
• Logistical Support: Workstation, internet access, and stationery at the Ministry.
• Internship Certificate: Issued upon successful completion, including submission/presentation of research work.
• Field Visit Allowance: Travel and daily allowance for Ministry-approved tours.

Note: Mess charges are not included in the accommodation and must be borne by the intern.

Expectations and Compliance

• Selected interns must sign a declaration acknowledging that the internship does not guarantee future employment.

Performance reviews will be conducted, and non-compliance or non-performance may result in termination of the internship
